Nimbu Soda: Lemon soda recipe

Lemon soda is a cooling beverage, commonly prepared in India in the hot season. It's also known as nimbu soda. Local homes and street vendors prepare this cold lemony drink to quench the thirst. Staying hydrated in the summer is necessary and the best way to do this is with lemon soda. It mainly consists of club soda, lemon juice, sugar, and salt.

To spice up things, people also like to add a pinch of black salt or chaat masala, a spice blend based on black salt. Black salt, called kala namak, tastes like sulphur and minerals. It adds a distinctive taste to a lemon soda. Many street vendors still use codd-neck bottles for club soda.

The best lemon soda that we had in the scorching summer heat, was at the ancient Hampi temples in South India. They use sugar syrup, and the lemon soda was perfectly balanced. Here is a recipe to make it at home.
